When The Going Gets Tough, You Get What You Practice

This is a concept I learned years ago from two of my favorite mentors, Tom and Elizabeth Lutes. Embodying this concept has been an incredibly worthwhile endeavor.

So here are some of the things I practice to make the going less tough, even when it is:

  • You can only hold others accountable to the degree at which you are willing to hold yourself accountable.

  • We’re every age we’ve ever been all at once. So remember that next time you yell at yourself or others.

  • Only you can bring yourself back to life.

  • Being a victim is never worth the suffering it creates. (Even when it feels kind of fun lol.)

  • Grounded roots create soaring wings.

  • Life is meant to be fun, but that doesn’t mean reckless… Okay, sometimes it means a little reckless.

  • Any breakdown can be tied back to a conversation not being had. (Thank you, Dad.)

  • Allowing someone to continuously treat you poorly is a lack of your own dignity, not theirs. You owe it to yourself and future generations to protect your dignity.

  • On the flip side, the way people treat you is a direct reflection of how they feel about themselves. (Once again, go Dad!)

  • Your body does not determine your worth. However, it absolutely does determine your well-being.

  • Your soul mate would actually want to date you. (I wish I could take credit for this one.)

  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made; now act like it.

  • The smarter and more consistently you work, the luckier you get.

  • Caution, you get what you tolerate. (Dad x3)

  • Wherever you go, there you are. (This one is all Mom.)

  • When you reduce yourself in order to fit in, you also reduce the impact and value you bring to the world.

Ask yourself, what are you practicing? Does it make the going tougher than it needs to be?

Good news, you make the rules. And that means choosing what you practice.

I could write an entire blog post on each of these individually. If there’s one or a few in particular that especially resonate with you, please let me know and I will elaborate!

I love you so much,

Caitlynrose
