Playing It Cool is Ruining Your Life

Playing it cool is ruining your life.
It’s ruining mine too.
Since I can remember, I have been incapable of being anyone other than myself.
It has been less than convenient, as you can imagine.
When the topic came to mind, I was elated, reminding myself of all the ways in which I know how to teach this lesson perfectly.
That was soon followed by the sorrow and panic in realizing that I have also been playing it cool as an attempt to appear like I care less than I actually do. You can probably guess how that’s been going…
I almost came to this piece as a total f****** hypocrite, making it all about you and everything I thought I had to teach you. Then I realized I had absolutely nothing to write about because I was totally wrong.
You absolutely must live what you teach.
And if you refuse to do so, it will always find a way to bite you in the ass. Or at the very least, humiliate you.
So what are we waiting for? We all want to feel the high of each other. Inherently, humans were created to connect. Playing it cool is not in our nature.
Yet we all do it. We are so afraid of connection that we will trade genuine intimacy for glamorized inauthenticity.
When you act like you don’t care, you contribute to the suffering of humanity.
What would happen if these actions ceased to exist?
Perhaps, we would just love each other freely and take each other and our relationships at least half as seriously as we take ourselves. Wouldn’t that be a dream?
Here is my invitation: drop the cool girl/guy act (you know, that one we all caught on to in middle school, yes, all of us). I promise it isn’t worth it. You are. Say hi to the girl at the supermarket you think is cute (and for the love of God, ask for her number), tell them you love them too soon, and always kiss your family.
