Laughable Leadership

Simple joys. We need them. Now more than ever.
Where are you finding joy? What makes you smile? How do you have fun?
Why is this important?
Because it helps. It heals. It brings down the stress levels.
Laughing for just a few minutes whether alone or with colleagues, can transform the mood within yourself or in a meeting.
For me, a well-timed Dad joke can change everything.
For example:
News flash: Local man addicted to drinking brake fluid says he can stop anytime.
People who take care of chickens are chicken tenders.
My brother just got a job as an arborist. He’s the new branch manager. (I told him to leaf that job.)
You smiled right? Rolled your eyes? Groaned? Whatever your reaction, for a minute you were transported.
Using fun to relieve tension or shift a conversation is a powerful leadership tactic you can use with yourself, family, friends, colleagues.
I think it’s safe to say that we could all use some laughs this year. A lot of laughs.
Mel Brooks said it was his job to “make terrible things entertaining.” Against oppression of all forms his weapon of choice has been comedy, and I’d like to suggest we follow Mel’s lead. There’s nothing that breaks tension quite like a good laugh. It’s even healthy for our bodies ... especially when we laugh enough to cry. An article by the Mayo clinic states that laughing relieves our stress response and improves our immune system. That’s good news for fighting the virus!
So now before I close....a few more Dad Jokes…
Dad, can you put the cat out? I didn’t know it was on fire.
Why did the math book look so sad? Because it had too many problems.
Past, Present and Future were late in arriving at the camping site because they couldn’t agree which tents to use.
When you lead from a place of lightheartedness and fun, notice the shift in the team and your office as a whole.
What are your favorite jokes? Let us hear about them in the comments section so we can start a new pandemic, a pandemic of fun!
Fundamental #10: KEEP THINGS FUN The problems that face us day to day at work are small compared to the challenges facing most of the world. Keep your perspective and don’t take things personally or yourself too seriously. Laugh every day with others.
